Fourth Conference of the Blaise Pascal Network
25 March 2007 |
ESSAT conferences take place every even year, and since the 8th Conference in 2000 in Lyon the French speaking participants felt that the need to meet regularly. Apart from promoting collaboration among groups in France, Belgium, Quebec, etc. there is the fact that many questions in Science and Religion appear differently when discussed in French. Blaise Pascal Network was therefore created. It holds its meetings every odd year.
The theme of this year’s Conference, on 24-25 March in Orsay near Paris, was Intelligent Design. There were about a hundred participants, including two bishops, five Jesuits, two Dominicans, several evangelical Christians, and three Muslims. There were four key talks: by Philippe Gagnon, Hervé le Guyader, Marc Godinot, and Jacques Arnould, about 8 workshops and many other occasions for stimulating debate and sharing.
The proceedings of the conference will be published as usual in the biannual journal Connaître, this time with the financial contribution of the Templeton Foundation and other sponsors.
