- The Anglade Institute, Shembaganur, India. Environmental Awareness Programmes
The following description of the Anglade Institute and its environmental awareness programmes which have won international acclaim is taken, in abridged form, from A Handbook of the Anglade Institute of Natural History, Shembaganur (1994) written by K.M. Matthew S.J., Director of both the Anglade Institute and the Rapinat Herbarium, Tiruchirapalli.
- Evidence of life on Mars from meteorites
Guy Consolmagno S.J. is a planetary scientist and member of staff of the Vatican Observatory. His recent research work has included a field trip with other scientists of several weeks in the Antarctic searching for Martian meteorites. He assesses current evidence for relict life on Mars. This paper was first given at the Fifth European Jesuit scientist meeting.

- LIFE: Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy
Fr. Francis P. Xavier S.J. after completing doctoral studies at Boston College (USA) in Physics in 1992 is conducting research in organic photoconductors. He has founded an inter-disciplinary research institute, named the Loyola Institute of Frontier Energy (LIFE) at Loyola College, Chennai where researchers from physics, chemistry and zoology are engaged in collaborative research on solar energy conversion and on the effect of industrial effluent on fish through electrical conductivity studies.
- Vatican Observatory Summer School
At two year intervals since 1986, the Vatican Observatory staff have welcomed a new international group of 25 students, many from developing countries for a month’s programme of research study conducted by some of the world’s leading astronomers. The inspiration for this Summer School was provided by Martin McCarthy S.J. This extremely successful Summer School not only has given excellent professional training to the students, many of whom have subsequently entered professional research careers, but has developed a greatly enriching community spirit amongst students, and staff alike which endures long afterwards. Vatican Observatory staff member, Chris Corbally S.J. here recounts the story of this Summer School.
