They are extremely positive. I had a career in science before I became a Jesuit and was disillusioned with it; I entered the Jesuits partly as a way of coming closer to what I felt called to do with my life. With great surprise I discovered that being a scientist and a Jesuit was the answer to my disillusionment. The important difference (besides the joys of Jesuit life in general) is the motivation behind doing the work. I now do science for the glory of God, for the joy of the work, and to reflect good on the Church and the Society which I love, rather than doing for my own self-promotion.

I have always felt fulfilled in my work as (chemistry teacher and researcher, administrator, president, and now as association president.) I think we are indeed fortuante to have Ignatian spirituality as the basis for whatever we do. I also take inspiration from Teilhard.
